Types of Wire- For Home Wiring

A wire is normally spherical and easily bent or rod of metal. To support electricity, machines like loads or telecommunication signals, the use of wire is made. Wires are located by making a hole in a draw plate or a die. These wire gauges have different standard dimensions and are revealed through a gauge number. The various kinds of wires are stranded, braided or core forms. The wires are normally cylindrical and made in hexagonal, cross-section, square are either for technical or decorative purposes.

Wire for home wiring must be chosen properly and need to be identified according to the requirements of the home. The different kinds of wires are

·         THHN/THWN Wire

The two types of wires i.e. THWN/ THHN are used inside a conduit. These have their color-coded insulation and are single conductors. These wires are safeguarded by plastic conduit. The conduit is used in areas that are not completed namely garages and basement in-home wiring. The letters have specific meaning and properties-

·T stands for thermoplastic, H for heat-resistant,HH for highly heat-resistant, W stands for wet locations, Nfor nylon-coated.

THWN/THHN wires have a different function which is identified through different colours coded in a circuit:

· Neutral wires: white, brown

· Ground wires: green, yellow-green

· Hotwires: black, red, orange

·         Low-voltage wires

These types of Low-voltage wires are used for circuits having less or equal to 50 volts. These types of wires are used in sprinkler systems, thermostat wires or bell wires. The range of wire size is 22 gauge to 12 gauge. These wires are insulated and maybe comprise cable apparel. These low voltage wires are used in low voltage applications   

·         Phone and Data Wire

These wires are used for the “landline” telephone and internet. The wire that is mostly used is Category 5 and is used in household data wiring. These wires are used in data transmission and phone which offers good quality and capacity. 

·         Cable Wire

Cable wires comprise of more than 2 strands. These have 3 wire running namely – neutral, grounding and a phase wire. The classification of cables is done according to several wires running through it.

There are different forms of wires and cables and these insulations. The non- conductive wire or any other type of material that comprise of insulated wires or cables are resisted to an electric current. The plastic covers and safeguards the wires and cable from inside. It helps to prevent the insulated wire’s current from coming into contact with other conductors.

Theplastic wire manufacturers manufactured the wires that are used in the home. These wires play an important role and these are dug in the ground in modern houses as no one likes wiring on the walls that are seen by everyone. The plastic wires help to protect us from accidents as the wire as electricity is the dangerous form and can kill any person. Also, plastic does a job of insulating the conductor which is used in electrical systems. The presence of plastic is necessary as neutral and hot wires cannot run in the same conductor. It is the best as the cost is low and prevents electrical shocks.
