The government-sponsored
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched in 2015 with the objective of
providing housing for all by 2022. Under this scheme, assistance will be
provided to all beneficiaries.
It primarily targets families and individuals from the economically weaker sections, urban and rural poor and the lower income groups. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) categorises applicants into four main groups, which are – (1) Economically Weaker Section (annual household income not more than Rs.3 lakhs), (2) Lower Income Group (annual household income between Rs.3 lakhs to Rs.6 lakhs), (3) Middle Income Group (annual household income between Rs.6 lakhs to Rs.18 lakhs), and (4) Inhabitants of slum areas.

Individuals must follow a
specific application process to avail a loan under the PM Awas Yojana. The primary documents that
are required include – (a) identity proof, (b) address proof, and (c) income
proof.
Online application process for the Pradhan Mantri
Awas Yojana
Following steps need to be
followed during online application under this housing scheme –
Step 1: Identify the
category to which you belong.
Step 2: Access the
official website of Pradhan
Mantri Awas Yojana.
Step 3: In the main menu
on the site’s home page, click on the drop-down menu of 'Citizen Assessment'.
Then, choose the appropriate category.
Step 4: Next, Aadhaar
details will have to be entered on the redirected page.
Step 5: Proceed to fill
the application form with necessary information such as personal details, bank
account and income details, residential address, etc.
Step 6: Before final
submission, enter the captcha code, and verify the entered details for
accuracy.
The status of home loan applications
can be checked by clicking on ‘Track your Assessment Status’ option, which is
included in the ‘Citizen Assessment’ menu.
Offline application process of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
One can also opt to apply
offline for home loan
subsidy provided under this scheme.

Offline forms to be collected from state
government-run Common Service Centres (CSCs).

The price of such forms is Rs.25. GST will be
added to the amount.

The application form will have to be duly filled
out and submitted.
There are a few things
that should be kept in mind with respect to the offline application process of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The application form is available in any other housing finance company, both
government-backed and non-banking finance companies. Documents mentioned in the
form will have to be submitted along with it. It is advised to determine the PMAY eligibility
criteria of the applicant before initiating the application process.
It must be noted in this
regard that no company or private individual is authorised to collect funds in
lieu of providing benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Application process for slum dwellers
As mentioned previously,
slum dwellers are also eligible under this scheme, and PMAY eases their way to
become a homeowner. Here is the process for such applicants in brief –
1. Login to the
official website of the scheme.
2. Select the
option ‘For Slum Dwellers’ the menu of ‘Citizen Assessment’.
3. Put in the
Aadhaar number and submit.
4. If mentioned
details are correct, then the applicant will be redirected to another page
where all the necessary details will have to be entered.
5. Once all such
information has been entered, applications can be submitted for
verification.
Applicants
who do not fulfil the requirements mentioned under PMAY scheme can avail home
loans from some of the leading financial institutions in India. Looking for lenders
also extend pre-approved offers to customers which make the process of availing
loan much simpler. Mostly, such offers include various financial products,
including home loans and loans against property. Check your pre-approved offer
online by providing few basic details such as name and contact number.
Nevertheless, such lenders have also been a part of the financial institutions serving to fulfil the agenda of providing home loan subsidy to first-time home applicants. In this regard, it is essential to opt for a lender who is a part of this initiative so that a borrower can benefit from the subsidies successfully.
